Access & Use: Information & Policies

The use of electronic resources made available by the Law Library is governed by the University of Minnesota Law Library's, Acceptable Use of Electronic Resources policy, as well as the University of Minnesota's Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources policy.  All users of library-licensed resources are responsible for complying with these policies, as well as the license terms of any specific resources they choose to access.

Due to vendor licensing requirements access to some resources is limited. Restrictions are indicated by the color coded notations next to the title of each entry in the directory.  Note: the Law Library's, Off-Campus Access to Electronic Resources Guide has additional information on access options, as well as helpful tips on how to create links to e-resources.

CILP - Current Index to Legal Periodicals (Law Lib. - Mondale Hall)
A weekly index service covering over 500 legal periodicals. In addition to the subject index, CILP also provides the table of contents for each new journal issue covered. Weekly issues archived back to 1999.  

Clarence Darrow Digital Collection - (University of Minnesota Law Library) (Open Access)
An extraordinary collection of personal letters written by and to Clarence Darrow. Sections of this site focus on both Darrow's famous and lesser known trials. Unique material including trial transcripts, cases, articles, books, photos, and narratives about Clarence Darrow's life and legal career are included. This site also offers a Searchable Database of Darrow Cases that contains all published state and federal cases in which Clarence Darrow or his law firm is listed as counsel for one of the parties. The database also contains all published state and federal cases that quote or refer to Clarence Darrow. The database is updated periodically.

Environment & Energy Publishing Package (Law Lib. - Mondale Hall &  UMLaw Remote)
Provides news and analysis of developments in environmental, energy, and natural resources policy. The E & E Package consists of five daily publications: ClimateWire, EnergyWire, Environment & Energy Daily, Greenwire and E & E News PM. Also includes E&ETV (featuring video interviews). PACER: Public Access to Court Electronic Records  (Reference)  
This fee-based database provides access to court dockets and documents for pending and resolved federal court cases.  Coverage varies by court. Bloomberg Law & Westlaw Alternatives: Bloomberg Law and Westlaw have docket databases that provide access to many of the same court materials available on PACER.  Generally, you should consult those databases first.  Law Library PACER Account Restricted:  Access to PACER via the Law Library's PACER account is restricted and requires pre-approval.  Contact the Law Library Reference Office for more information.  Separate PACER Account Information/Fees:  Users may also register for an individual or organization PACER account.  Details, including fee information and an online registration form are available at the PACER web site.  Note:  selected docket information for several federal courts was removed from PACER in Sept. 2014.  See, "What Happened to the Information Removed from PACER" (blog post) for details and access alternatives.

A federal legislative history database service that makes available compilations of digital full-text publications relevant to enacted United States public laws.  Content coverage includes legislative histories for over 18,000 public laws from 1929 to 2012.  Additional content covering 9,000 laws from from 1789-1965 is currently being added to the database (completion date by 2015).   With the additional content Legislative Insight will cover 27,000 laws, including all CIS histories from 1970-2012 and approximately 18,000 new histories from 1789-1969.

ProQuest Statistical Abstract of the U.S. (U of M-TC Campus & Libraries)
