THE AMERICAN LAW INSTITUTES’S RESTATEMENTS OF THE LAW

Guide to the Archival Collection, Riesenfeld Research Center

Access

Restatements in the Archival Collection of the American Law Institute at the Riesenfeld Center can be discovered in the University of Minnesota’s library catalog (MNCAT). There one can find each Restatement topic by title, subject, reporter, and under the identifier American Law Institute. Each entry in the catalog is linked to a finding aid on that particular topic.

The finding aid includes all items in the Archival Collection for a particular Restatement topic. The finding aid provides a detailed description of each item, including dates of coverage, contents, and shelf location.

Use of the Archival Collection is unrestricted. However, the items are for use only in the Riesenfeld Center Reading Room and do not circulate.

The Center is located in Room N-30, Walter F. Mondale Hall, University of Minnesota Law Library. It is regularly open 1 p.m. - 3:30 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. It can also be opened by appointment; contact: Katherine Hedin, Curator of Rare Books ( k-hedi@umn.edu ) or call 612-625-7323.

Many Restatements are also found in the Law Library’s General (circulating) Collections, as well as the Reserve Collection. In addition, they are available in the following online sources to which the Library subscribes: Westlaw, Lexis, and HeinOnline.
