Minnesota Attorneys & Judges

 

Retrieval Service

The University of Minnesota Law Library provides a retrieval service for Minnesota Attorneys and Judges. We will pull requested items from our collection and place them on our hold shelf at the Circulation Desk free of charge. This service is a retrieval service only, however, and the items are not sent to you. If you would like materials mailed to you, please place your requests through Interlibrary Loan.

Copy & Delivery Services

Document copy and delivery services are available through the University Libraries' InfoNOW service.  Visit their web site at: http://www.lib.umn.edu/infonow or call 612-626-3940 or (toll free) 800-477-6689 for further information.

Interlibrary Loan

To request materials through Interlibrary Loan, contact the Interlibrary Loan Department at a library with which you are currently affiliated, such as an academic, firm, court, or local public library. For information on how other libraries can request our materials through Interlibrary Loan, please see the "Other Libraries" section below.


General Public

 

Borrowing Materials

The University of Minnesota Law Library does not loan materials to members of the general public. If you would like to borrow materials from our collection, please consult the Interlibrary Loan office at a library with which you are currently affiliated, such as an academic, firm, court, or local public library. Another option is to contact InfoNOW, a fee-based research and document delivery service here at the University of Minnesota (web site: www.lib.umn.edu/infonow/, phone: (612) 624-2356).

Retrieval Service

We will pull requested items from our collection and place them on our hold shelf at the Circulation Desk free of charge. This service is a retrieval service only, however, and the items are not sent to you. If you would like materials sent to you, please place your requests through Interlibrary Loan.

Interlibrary Loan

The University of Minnesota Law Library accepts lending and photocopy requests from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan. We will loan circulating Law Library materials to libraries within the United States for six weeks. Please note that non-circulating items include reference materials, items on reserve, primary source materials (case reporters, codes/statutes, session laws), rare books, microfilm, microfiche, and audio-visual materials. Also, we do not loan items internationally. We will send copies internationally by email or fax, but not through the mail.

To submit an ILL request, please use OCLC (our code is MLL) or ALA forms can be faxed to 612-625-3478 or mailed to:

PLEASE NOTE: We are no longer accepting ILL requests via email or over the phone.

CHARGES: We have reciprocal lending agreements with RLIN ILL RLG SHARES, Minitex, the Chicago Legal Academic System (CLAS) institutions, the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) institutions, and the University of Wisconsin Madison Law Library (OCLC code GZL). For all other libraries, we charge $19.00 per request. We can deduct charges via IFM, or we can send an invoice.

SHIPPING: Items loaned to Minitex and CIC libraries are sent through Minitex. All other loans are sent via UPS. We can ship items overnight via FedEx if you provide us with your FedEx number. Photocopies can be sent through email as a .pdf attachment, fax, or UPS.

Please note the following Copyright restrictions:

NOTICE: WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship or research." If a user makes a request for or later uses a photocopy in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of the copyright law.
